The bark pieces used are naturally and sustainably hand harvested. At no point in the harvesting process are live trees harmed or involved. All bark is sustainably sourced and harvested in a manner that does not disrupt the natural ecology of the environments they are sourced from.
The bark pieces used are not chemically treated and therefore still may contain organic compounds that can lead to their decomposition over time. Each section of bark is hand washed and soaked only in water and dried into shape.
‘Uncut’ pieces (pieces of bark that remain cylindrical and suffer no breakage during the harvesting process) are rare but occasionally available. All other pieces are secured with wood glue. The birch bark is 100% organic material and although uncommon, the wood glue seal may age and become loose over time. As your birch bark item ages, it may become more brittle or change slightly in color.
To ensure longer preservation of your birch bark items, keep them out of areas that are sunny or get an excess amount of light, moisture or activity. Avoid getting your birch wet (it is not recommended to keep your birch decor near a window where condensation can build up or rain can come through if left open).
It is recommended to only handle your birch decor with clean hands. Oils and other sources of moisture found on your fingers can stain and discolor the birch. It is not recommended to clean your birch bark but if necessary, spot clean only with a damp paper towel. Let air dry.
